Issue 8 • August, 2011
Hey Folks,
Is it hot enough for
ya? It's so hot that I saw two trees fighting over a
dog. It's so hot I had to step outside for a drink of fresh
air. But I'm about to cool things down with the August
edition of Where and When. It's chill.
Kris and I have been working on our farmer tans and enjoying the
summer. We've really enjoyed seeing some of you folks at our
recent outings. We're very thankful for your continued
support, and we're especially thankful for the folks who made it
out to Moher Public House
and Duke's recently.
They've booked us for some additional shows based more on your
help then our good looks, if you know what I'm sayin'.
We only have one show booked for August since we had blocked out
time to go to Washington and solve the national debt crisis if our
elected assembly could not. Since it's quite a mess we
figured it may take a few weeks to mop up but we are willing to do
our part. There are plenty of great opportunities to see us
later on, though, and I'm gong to include some of those in this
edition of Where and When. Shall we get started then?
FRI. AUGUST 5th 8:00PM ― LOVELL'S OF LAKE FOREST
915 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL
60045
Yes, Kris and Marlon
are back in the Captain's Quarters once again. There is a
reason that this room is such a mainstay for us: We beg on
bended knee to play here, such is our appreciation for Jay,
Scotty, Francisco and all the great staff in this
establishment. A little backstory: Kris and I first
played The Captain's Quarters back in 2007. We've had the
pleasure of making over 30 return visits since and sampling a
great deal of their terrific menu. So, it is with some
certainty that we can say this place does not disappoint. If
you are a wine lover, they may have a bottle or two to strike your
fancy. Try the Beef Wellington! The Pizza with Bolognese
Sauce! The Burger! It's all good, as they say.
Keep in mind this is the only opportunity to catch the Kris and
Marlon show in August that we know of. That alone is reason
well enough not to miss it.
SAT. SEPTEMBER 10th 9:30PM ― MOHER PUBLIC HOUSE
5310 W. Devon Ave., Chicago, IL 60646
You may recall me
talking this place up in the previous issue of Where &
When. I mentioned that they had a fantastic beer menu and
that the Shepard's Pie was a hot menu item and such. Well,
now that I've actually been to the place I can report that it is
all TRUE! I mean, I had it on fairly good authority before,
you know, or else I wouldn't have reported it. Rupert
Murdoch does not own Where & When, yet! Now, I can
categorically state that this place is a great Irish pub with a
nice parking lot to swing your ride into straight in the beating
heart of Edgebrook. Anyplace that does not ask us to leave
at some point is OK in my book, but this place has actually asked
us to come back MORE THAN ONCE, which as far as we're concerned
makes it the best place in the whole wide world. Please join
us for a night of merriment and wonder that you can provide a full
confession for at the church of your choosing the very next
day. Remember, you can't regret what you haven't
tried.
COMING SOON...
The inimitable and
estimable songwriter and Stone Face Records recording star Mark Zeus
will be back in the area at the end of September appearing
Thursday, September 29th at Fitzgerald's,
Friday, September 30th at Lovell's of Lake Forest
(8PM) and at Honkytonk
BBQ in Pilsen Saturday, October 1st (10PM). For
any of you unfamiliar with the legend of Zeus, he comes this-a-way
twice annually from Houston, TX bringing a barrel full of original
songs and hand picked selections from folks such as Merle and
Lefty, or people you should know like Ken and Wayne. We are
still hammering out the details for a possible fourth date in the
area (can someone bring me the large hammer?) and we will be
providing a full update on what to expect in the next edition of
Where and when.
Also, in October we will be returning to Moher's Public House on the 9th and Bernice's
Tavern on the 15th. Please mark your calendars down
now before school starts and your marking pens get all misplaced.
Thanks for staying tuned in to Where and When, your source for
important updates on our whereabouts. Feel free to forward
this along to folks wondering where they may find us unless they
look like process servers.
