Issue 26 April, 2013

Promo PicHey Folks,

The Kris & Marlon Show and Richie Sambora are teaming up once again for a Rick Astley Tribute Album that drops today.  "The 80s are back in a major way, baby!"  said songwriter Kris Nichols.  "The 80s are kicking ass and taking names.  Woo Hoo!", he added excitedly.  This will be the 2nd time that the duo and the Bon Jovi guitarist have collaborated.  They worked on a 2005 Donovan tribute project that was never released for artistic license reasons.

Welcome to Issue 26 of Where and When.  It's opening day and The Cubs are undefeated!  There is much to report and many fine shows ahead that you will want to attend.  So grab a waitress and write this down on her order pad.

Mark and MarlonTHURS., APRIL 4th 9:00PM—THE GREEN ROOM AT THE ABBEY PUB

3420 W. Grace, Chicago IL 60618

For all you Zeus fans, it is that time again. The Return of Zeus Tour begins at The Abbey Pub Thursday, April 4th. If you come for all three shows, your name will automatically be entered for a special prize. Old stuff, new stuff—we're throwing it all in the hopper and then we're going to turn the crank on the Great Showbiz Extravaganza Machine to see what comes out. We'll need your help turning the crank as the machine can be cantankerous at times, but if our calculations are correct (and why wouldn't they be), it should turn out three absolutely unique and dazzling spectacles. One for each consecutive night. You only get to say you were there if you actually are there, so you may as well be there for bragging rights if you will.

Marlon and MarkFRI., APRIL 5th 8:00PM―LOVELL'S OF LAKE FOREST

915 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045

Night two of The Return of Zeus Tour continues in The Captain's Quarters lounge deep in the belly of Lovell's of Lake Forest. This has been a regular stop for Mark and I over the years, and we always look forward to seeing the friends and folks there. For some reason, our set list tends to get more adventurous in this room—not that we have a set list in a typical sense. Songs tend to get played as we grab for titles in the back of our minds. In the Captain's Quarters, we occasionally reach into some of the more unlit corners of our heads for sometimes surprising results. At least that is how it seems.

Moher PicSAT., APRIL 6th 9:30PM—MOHER PUBLIC HOUSE

5310 W. Devon Ave., Chicago, IL 60646

One of the final stops of the tour! Half remembered oaths will be sworn, lost treasure found, debts of gratitude paid, gas money gotten. We'll bend strings until they break in two. People will holler things like "Big Hair!" and "I Love Me!" It will be all that and free parking at Moher's where the girls really do get prettier at closing time.

In The Round PicSUN., APRIL 7th 7:00PM—THE BROWNSTONE TAVERN

3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60613

This show is on like an overcoat. It's down the alley like Aunt Sally. It is In The Round at The Brownstone featuring Houston's Mark Zeus, the extraordinary Beth Kille from Madison, Wisconsin, and yours truly. We ought to be selling tickets to this stuff, but you know what? No cover! An all acoustic show. Early showtime. There is much music to play.

Brownstone PicWED., APRIL 10th 9:00PM—THE OPEN MIC AT THE BROWNSTONE TAVERN

3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60613

Oyez, Oyez, Oyez...I will henceforth be hosting an Open Mic at The Brownstone Tavern starting Wednesday, April 10th. Bring friends, lovers, wives, and acquaintances with instruments to this stage on this day and on the subsequent Wednesdays of each and every week thereafter for a fair and proper hearing. Signup starts at 8:30PM. I hope to see you there. Notice is hereby given!

Brownstone Tavern PicWED. APRIL 17th 9:00PM—THE OPEN MIC AT THE BROWNSTONE TAVERN

3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60613

So, many years ago Mark Zeus ran a rollicking open mic at a place called The Clearwater Tap. He moved this open mic lock, stock, and mic over to The Abbey Pub in the mid-90s where it became legend. Now The Brownstone Tavern, the same location on Lincoln where The Clearwater Tap once stood will once again host an open mic for the first time since the early 90s. "Three songs or 15-minutes whether you suck or not!" is now "Three songs, 15-minutes, and the truth as you know it." Come on out and make yourself heard!

WED. APRIL 24th 9:00PM—THE OPEN MIC AT THE BROWNSTONE TAVERN

3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60613

Keep on coming out to the Wednesday open mic, and be sure to bring your friends.

So, there you have it!  Special guests in town, lotsa music, good times.  That's what we have in store for you in April.  Also, there are return dates coming your way in May at Lovell's and Bridie McKenna's, and much, much more.  As always, we look forward to seeing you where and when we can.

With warmest regards,
