Issue 27 ● May, 2013
Hey Folks,
Alas, this is the first issue in twenty-seven issues to arrive
to you late. Apologies. This was due to sudden
arrivals of VIPs, because of mud princesses; we wanted to spend
more time with our family; to forces beyond our control, general
listlessness, to existing conditions, and lastly, the
all-purpose what-not.
Welcome to Where and When. It's was May Day
yesterday. Did you hug a laborer? Now, grab the day
by the lapels and write this down:
EACH AND EVERY WEDNESDAY: THE OPEN MIC
AT BROWNSTONE TAVERN
3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago IL 60613
A special shout out to Gary, Kris, Nicki, Sadie, Herbie, Dave,
Norm, Mike & Tyler, Peter, Nick, Janet and Rudy, and everyone
else who has been supporting the Wednesday Open Mic at Brownstone
Tavern. This is going to be a great summer room, so thanks
again for coming and hope to see you back soon.
FRI., MAY 10th
9:30PM―MOHER PUBLIC HOUSE
5310 W. Devon Ave., Chicago, IL 60646
The Nick & Marlon Show featuring Nick Gonzales will be
returning to Moher Public House Friday, May 10th. In addition to
hosting open mics at venues such as The Gallery Cabaret, and
Redmons, Nick Gonzales performs regularly throughout Chicagoland
appearing with vocalists Angie Wendt and Sandra Lane. As a
guitarist, Nick's rhythmic bass lines and chiming lead work strike
sparks in the wonderfully diverse material he chooses from his
wide repertoire. We have performed as a duo over a dozen times in
the last six years bridging our set lists and melding our
percussive styles on tunes from Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, and
Wings era Paul McCartney to Johnny Mercer and Hank Williams.
FRI., MAY 24th 8:00PM—LOVELL'S
OF LAKE FOREST
915 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045
With talks once again stalled, House Republicans are set to
declare yet another looming budget impasse. A person close to
talks between the President and the Speaker confirmed today that
it is clear that everyone wishes to adjourn and go see The Kris
& Marlon Show in The Captain's Quarters lounge at Lovell's of
Lake Forest on the sunny Northshore. "Let me be clear," said the
Speaker. "It's his Presidency, he can do with it what he wants,
but the people are ready to hear songwriters Kris Nichols and
Marlon St. John do some tunes down in the lounge."
SAT., MAY 25th—BRIDIE
McKENNA'S
254 Green Bay Rd., Highwood IL 60040
One features Nick; One features Kris. How are they alike? How are
they different? As Thomas Edison once said, "Hell, there are no
rules here — we're trying to accomplish something." One thing we
are accomplishing is a return visit to a truly fine establishment
with an equally fine staff, Bridie McKenna's in Highwood, IL.
Another thing is that this time it's likely I won't leave my
jingle bag at home with the chime tree and whatnots so that I miss
the triangle solo in You Are The Sunshine In My Life. I mean what
happens when you look down and see "triangle solo" and realize you
left your triangle at home? You can't explain that. Your done Nerd
Boy! The triangle can't play itself from 6 miles away on the
floor, now can it?
So, there you have it! Remember, in June there will be a
special show at
The Store, and I hear the stirrings of
another possible offering as well. We strive to bring you
all the show that can fit in a Toyota Corolla. As always,
we look forward to seeing you
where and
when we can.
With warmest regards,
Marlon St. John

Q: If April showers
bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
A: Smallpox and genocide.
