Hey Folks,

Yes, we are working late tonight at the office.  Our agent Murray has been on the phone half the evening to someone explaining to them what the word "guarantee" means.  He's got the Merriam Webster dictionary out.  I've never seen Murray crack a book before.  Heck, when he cracks a smile it can scare pigeons off the sill.  The Snap-On Tool calendar is flapping every time the yawning oscillating fan that looks like it is about to nod off sways its way.  But there's work to be done.  As a matter of fact, we have some F I N E entertainment for you this month.  So, grab a ball point, take a seat, and jot this down.  You will remember it seven times better.  It's proven science.

Brownstone PicEACH AND EVERY WEDNESDAY:  THE OPEN MIC AT BROWNSTONE TAVERN

3937 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago IL 60613

Join us at the leafy intersection of Lincoln and Larchmont for a weekly dose of The Wednesday Open Mic at Brownstone Tavern.  It is as much show as can fit in a Toyota Corolla.  It is your sisters knickers.  It is you and your material.  Come see the show; be the show.  Many thanks to Kaitlyn, and Christine from Ireland who serenaded us with special songs recently before heading across the ocean waters.  And congratulations on The Brownstone Tavern Champions for winning the Softball tournament and destroying Queen's We Will Rock You.  Thanks to Jim Savoie for stepping in and keeping the show trucking along with a healthy dose of The Band, and Grateful Dead.  A thanks to Casey Conrad and Stu Genovese for their sets and for helping get the job done.   We do this each Wednesday with or without you, but its better with you there.  Besides we may need a third harmony on a tune.  Bring your pitch pipe.

Lovell's PicSAT. AUGUST 3, 8:30 PM—BRIDIE McKENNA'S

254 Green Bay Road, Highwood, IL 60040

The Kris & Marlon Show is doing only one appearance for the next couple of months.  That makes this an exclusive engagement, one-night-only!  It is practically a once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity you can't miss!  If, like many of our fans, you have spent the last five years thinking "I should get out and see The Kris & Marlon Show, this is it!  This is the show to see.  Weather permitting we may be on the patio.  We'll be shooting bottle rockets until the cops show up.  Since the Highwood police department is directly across the tracks, that shouldn't take too long.  You don't want to miss our booking and fingerprinting now would you?

Pretty
            Gritty PicFRI., AUGUST 23rd, 9:00 PM—FRIENDLY TAP

6733 W. Roosevelt Rd., Berwyn, IL 60402

I am very pleased to be opening for Pretty Gritty, a Rockville, MD based act currently touring the states.  As Illinois is still considered a state, it was inevitable that they would make it to our neck of the woods at some point, and here they are.  This is one to tell the friends and neighbors about—especially if they're hep.  They are the outstanding acoustic duo of Sarah Wolff, and Blaine Heinonen.  It's country/soul, it's rock-n-roll.  It's Donny and Marie, it's Ike and Tina, it's butter and ho cakes.  It is Friday, August 23rd at 9:00pm.  Go on, listen to some of their stuff and admit it's right up your alley (or down your alley if you prefer).

TC&MS PicSAT., AUGUST 31st, 8:00 PM—LOVELL'S OF LAKE FOREST—THE CAPTAIN'S QUARTER'S LOUNGE

At the risk of trying something altogether new, this month at Lovell's we will debut The Chris & Marlon Show, and while that may simply seem to be a rather subtle change of letters, in this case it also means I will be appearing with Chris Behre, a terrific area performer and songwriter.  I managed to bump into Chris one recent night at the Brownstone Tavern Open Mic.  He delighted the fine patrons there with tunes tinged in a folk, reggae and latin feel, and an idea was quickly hatched by a hen in the back of my head.  BTW - whoever slipped that "b" in the middle of subtle is a clever one.  Also, BTW - I sometimes wish that hen would go scratch somewhere else.

As exciting at this all sounds, there's a lot more to come in September, but I can't say too much now because we are on deadline and Murray is about to have a conniption.  I will say that The Hang It On The Wall Tour, Pt. 2 is coming to town with Mark Zeus; surviving members of The Red Horde will assemble, and the tour wagon will be ready.  As always, we look forward to seeing you Where & When we can.

With warmest regards,

Marlon St. John
