Hey Folks,

The blinds slap in the breeze from the oscillating fan.  The corner of the Snap-On tool calendar flutters every time the fan nods its way.  Welcome to a special edition of Where & When, your source for uniquely cool info.  Murray, our robotic but otherwise capable booking agent has managed to book us some more dates, although he's only worked intermittently since we last powered him up.  We haven't the heart to tell him his model's been discontinued and we can no longer find parts for him as this could make him more taciturn than he already is. Nevertheless, these shows promise to be in the range of spectacular and ones you certainly will not wish to miss, so pull up a chair and grab a pen.  You're gonna want to jot this down.

Windy City InnSAT. AUGUST 23rd — BERNICE'S TAVERN

3238 S. Halsted St., Chicago, IL 60608

Back for a return engagement at one of the finest music establishments in the Western World. Bernice's Tavern is always a good time. The regulars like their music deep fried and crispy with spicy accents and steaming hot, and that's just the way we like to serve it up. It doesn't hurt that Steve the bartender has curated the finest jukebox in all of Chicago so that the good tunes spin all night with or without an act playing. It also doesn't hurt that he's got coolers full of icy cold ones on the warmest August nights and a fully stocked bar. Nick has his book of tunes that feature six decades of popular hits and should-have-been-hits. There is always room for a dance floor if you know what you're doing.

Moher Public HouseTHURS., SEPTEMBER 4th — THE GREEN ROOM AT THE ABBEY PUB

3420 W. Grace, Chicago, IL 60618

Have I got a show for you: Mark Zeus and Erin O'Toole, two expats from Chicago now living in Houston, Texas and Greenville, Illinois as well as two former hosts of the Abbey Pub Open Mic will be in The Green Room for one special night of music. Shows like this is why I keep my musical insurance all paid up. I have it on good authority that both picking and grinning may be accomplished — maybe even some fiddling too.  Come early and get properly seated, your waitress will bring you the finest of refreshments and repasts. If you don't bring friends with you friends will be provided, but by all means bring your friends along! If you leave them out of something like this, they may have to rethink their friendship to you. You will want to hip them to this so they know you are hep.

Grace Street TapFRI., SEPTEMBER 5th — LOVELL'S OF LAKE FOREST

915 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045

The legend has been told of a mysterious man of song who appears out of the night with a small bag containing a guitar, some various cords, a mic, and a raft of songs. Spirits have been known to conjure him when they are beset. He's given directions to places that don't exist yet. His guitar can double as a kayak paddle in the rainy season. His business card simply says, "I'll call you." He can do both call and response silently. He knows where Jim Morrison's beard is located. Sherpa's carry his songs in their heads. He gives earthquake forecasts to dogs and birds. When you go down to the crossroads and try to flag a ride, often he'll be the one that gives it to you.

Circle PicSAT., SEPTEMBER 6th — THE CIRCLE INN

7300 Circle Ave, Forest Park, Illinois 60130

Some of you may remember the '90s, a long ago era of music and mayhem that occurred between the Bush administrations. Little remains from that time. The bands that once flourished then are mostly broken up or touring Indian casinos. Well, it was back then that an eclectic tribe of people would gather in a dimly lit L-shaped bar in Forest Park for good tunes and good times that never seemed in short supply. They are coming back for more like the 'aughts never happened. Call it a reunion; call it inevitable. The beer is cold and the music is hot. "Delia's Gone", "Big Hair", "I Love Me", "Dick Daley". If any of this rings any particular bells, your presence is hereby requested.

So there you have it!  An excuse to keep on truckin'!.  Once again, we love it when you come to see us, and hate it when you have to leave.  As always, we look forward to seeing you where and when we can.

With warmest regards,

Marlon St. John
