Issue 36 - June, 2017
Hey Folks,
Do you ever fee so
lucky that even a new dime can't hold a shine to you? Do
you ever think that someone is going to tug on your sleeve
and say that yes, this really is what you are doing and it
is not simply a Shangri-la dream. Well, then you know about
how I feel about the upcoming 1st Annual Texas Road trip
where I will be packing up the tour
wagon and playing my Americana Houston debut. And
I get to do another gig with my eighteen-year-old daughter
before she runs off to college and becomes too expensive for
me to hire anymore. This is as good as it is likely to get
for a simple man like me, so grab your waitress and jot
these dates down on her notepad. You don't want to miss
these shows:
Thursday, June 22nd 8:00pm-Midnight
The Abbie & Marlon Show
The Americana Houston
2957 Bingle Rd.
Houston, TX 77055
My good buddy Mark Zeus has been making
the transit from America's 4th largest city to America's 3rd
largest for quite some time now. A couple times a year he tries
to get up this-a-way, and when I can I try to get that-a-way.
Well, a while back the subject came up that there should be a
place where Americana music plays all night and all day and where
corn dogs and chili dogs with authentic Chicago Vienna dogs are
served. In fact, I think it may have been Mark who brought it
up. Well, instead of just sitting around talking about it, a
short while ago in Mid-April I got the call that he was Open For
Business! Mark Zeus is the proprietor of what for musicians is
quickly becoming the worst kept secret in town. The Americana
Houston is a place where Woody Guthrie might bum a smoke from
Roger Miller while Merle Haggard swivels his bar stool around to
stare at the stage with eyebrows raised. If they aren't there in
spirit when you arrive, they will be along in a moment or two just
as soon as they go see a man about a dog. Their kindred are there
which is practically just as good. And you should be there too.
It's right there on Bingle just off Kempwood Dr. you can't miss
it, because why would you? It is our Americana Houston debut!
Friday, June 23rd 6:00pm- 12:30am
Hank Woji and The Thunderboltz Trio!
The Americana
Houston
2957 Bingle Rd.
Houston, TX 77055
Marlon will be the third wheel once again with
the Thunderbotz Trio. So this should be some foot stompin', sweet
heart kissin', hat tippin', boot scootin' good time. The bar is
open, the dogs are Chicago style, the music is hot as a pole barn
roof in July, and the shade is cool and dark inside. Teja Tacos
are served along with coffee, juice, what-have-you and, yes, you
may use this area as a dance floor especially because that is what
it is there for. If we get anymore laid back, we might fall right
over.
And would that be such a bad thing? As the great Alan Watts once
observed, €œEnough is as good as a feast.€

The Abbie & Marlon Show
Phyliss'
Musical Inn
1800 W. Division St.
Chicago, IL 60622
Phyliss' Musical Inn has been a Chicago institution since Polka
has ruled the land. If you can find handprinted accordion
wallpaper of this particular quality anywhere in the world, you
can win a Deep Secret Door Prize, but you must be present to win.
The Abbie & Marlon Show makes it's official Phyllis' debut
notwithstanding that I played here off and on back in the €˜90s.
This was back when beer was plentiful and musical acts roamed the
countryside in search of it, albeit it wasn't that hard to find,
and neither is Phyllis'. It has been holding down the same corner
of Division and Wood in Wicker Park for a while now. This
particular evening may just accidentally spill out onto the famed
beer garden/patio, which is how nature will have intended it.
And there you have it
folks, this is real entertainment. You can't
get premium quality entertainment like this anywhere in the world
unless you are connected and plugged in to the source, and you
must be because you are on this extremely exclusive list. So feel
free to share this with people as cool as yourself, and we hope to
see you out Where
and When we can.
