Issue 41 — November, 2021
The Tour
Wagon has been readied for a trip up this-a-way.
Yes, every year about this time or twice a year as some
say since at least the mid-Twentieth Century there
have been sightings of a mysterious songster carrying a
pack of tunes in a zip duffel on his back. He arrives
from out of the mist of night plopping into a chair with
not a word from his lips until the mic is adjusted so.
Indigenous People have a holiday in his honor. He's got
a travel atlas that is actual size. He can quiet crying
babies by tuning his A string. In the back of the road
house they've got some bungalows and one of them is
his. He has a radio that plays ancient songs many not
yet written. His resume simply says, Been there, done
that. His legend precedes him like lightning before
thunder.

This will be our first time playing at
the Mystic Rogue which can only mean one thing: we don't have
an outstanding bar tab to avoid once we get there. Come and
join us at the former Mo Dailey's location and enjoy some
delicious, authentically Irish items fresh off their menu. We
will be the ones by the fireplace playing something old,
something new, and something...true.
The Fuller's Pub folks are no strangers to live music. Our good friends Mark and Giselle have hosted an open mic there for some time, and many local acts have filled their dance floor over the years. This is a classic Chicago hang, and the last time we played, after we called it a night and packed up our stuff, that is exactly what we did. We hung out with our new friends as well as a few of our older ones while distractedly trying to make up an excuse for why we'd be home so much later than expected. Handily, they have a storeroom in the back with hardly used excuses in case you run out.
With talks on Biden's Build Back Better plan once again stalled, Senate Republicans are set to declare yet another looming budget impasse. A person close to talks between the White House and the Minority Leader confirmed today that it is clear that everyone in the chamber wishes to adjourn and go see Mark Zeus and Marlon St. John at the dog friendly Four Treys Tavern in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. "Let me be clear," said the Sen. McConnell. "It's his presidency, he can do with it what he wants, but the people are ready to hear songwriters Mark Zeus and Marlon St. John do some tunes at the bar."
It seems we've been playing at Grandpa's Place since Grandpa was a small boy. They pour pints like Victoria Falls pours the Zambezi. They can cook a burger like Yosemite Sam shoots pistols, and occasionally they host a show like ours. This is one of those times. Drinks will be served; songs will be sung; oaths will be sworn; laughs will be had; hearts will be broken•but only if you don't come. Leave your worries on your doorstep and come join us.
And that will
about wrap it up for this issue of Where and
When. If things get any better, we may have to
hire someone to help us enjoy it. Remember, we
only send you this helpful reminder of what
we're up to because you are a discerning music
aficionado with an eclectic taste, and you are
unique... just like everybody else. We
certainly hope to see you out Where and When we
can.
