Issue 46 -July 10, 2023
Hey Folks,
It has been said that a musician is
someone who loads $5,000 worth of gear into a $500 van to
drive 100 miles for a $50 gig. While that may be mostly true,
it's also true that it's totally worth it. When the tune is
right and the night takes on that special juke joint glow, you
know all over again what made you want to run away and join
the circus way back when. As Martha Reeves once observed,
summer's here and the time is right for dancin' in the
streets. Since we don't advise dancing in traffic as it may
be hazardous, we've put together the following dates where
dancing is permitted so you may safely get your thang
on.
Sun.
July 16, 2023 8:00PM
Montrose Saloon
2933 W Montrose Ave
Chicago IL 60618
We liked this gig
so much we decided to do it all again. We're back for more summer
fun at Montrose Saloon. Come early and check out The Devil
Said Jump and American BBC. Stay late and check out
Wheel of Giants. Abi and I are trying to work in as many
gigs as we can before she heads off to grad school and gets too
smart for me to afford anymore. So this is a good chance to still
catch us while you can. If it was any more entertaining, the City
would find a way to tax it.
Thurs. July 20,
2023 8:00PM
The Nest - Bar and Eaterie
6859 W. Irving
Park Rd.
Chicago, IL 60634
For those of you who never got over
the band Tumbleweeds breaking up back in the ˜80s. Good news, a
good portion of that group will quite likely reunite onstage at
The Nest, and I have yet another chance to finally learn the
guitar parts to some of these tunes instead of just winging it
and wishing I had listened to the record a time or two.
Regardless, The Nest is a great hang that is typically peopled
with all the folks we like to see (and that means you), and it
has a perfectly fine dance floor just waiting for some boots to
scoot on it.
Fri. July 21, 2023 9:00PM
Barraco's Pizza
2105 W 95th St
Beverly, IL 60643
Beverly is not a long way to drive
for Chicago style pizza if it's really good Chicago style pizza
and served up with some hot tunes. This is a new joint for us,
and as such they haven't had a chance yet to hear all our old
worn out jokes, so they are in for a real treat.
BTW, do you know what the bassist said in the bar fight?
"I don't want any treble!
A drummer, tired from being mocked by other musicians, decides
to switch instruments. He walks into a music shop and says,
"I'll take that red trumpet over there, and that accordion."
After a second, the owner says, "OK, you can have the fire
extinguisher but the radiator stays."
Sat.
July 22, 2023 9:00PM
Finnegan's Pub
1074 Joliet Street
Dyer IN 46311
We
are back once again to spend more time with the fine folks at
Finnegan's Pub, a place with a great stage and an all around
good vibe. This joint is located so close to the
Illinois/Indiana state line that I can't help but slip into my
Hoosier accent. So don't be surprised if I get to hankering to
skeedaddle at the end of the night. So get your motor running
and head out on the highway and meet us out Highway 30 right
across from the Speedway.
Once again, this is the kind of entertainment the
mainstream media does not want you to know about, we're not
the corporate rock-n-roll they have approved. But since you
are a valued member of an elite club of music aficionados, you
get to know where the cool gigs are happening. So if you know
some other cool people (we know you do), make them hep, and we
will see you Where and When we can.
With warmest
regards,
